Announcements 2007-2008 Stacey Bertke (Division Administrative Assistant) assisted with OCTC’s United Way campaign, Season of Sharing fund-raising efforts, and Christmas Kids charity. She has provided help for several community groups, including Owensboro Sister Cities, the Owensboro Area World Affairs Council, and the Owensboro Noon Optimist Club. Susannah Dickman (Interdisciplinary Early Childhood Education) made presentations at several professional conferences, including: “Using Sensory Integration in Guidance Techniques for Young Children” at the Southern Early Childhood Association Conference and “Introducing CMI: Case Method of Instruction as a Pedagogical Tool” at the 2008 New Horizons Conference on Teaching and Learning. Michelle Edwards (Interdisciplinary Early Childhood Education) serves on OCTC’s Scholarship Committee and participated in two professional development initiatives involving online teaching and learning: a semester-long Title III Alternative Delivery Initiative and a four-week Teaching and Learning class. Cornelia Glenn (Education) was named Coordinator of OCTC’s Education AAS program. She serves as the campus advisor for the National Education Association and Kentucky Education Association student groups. She made a presentation at the May 2007 New Horizons Conference on Teaching and Learning concerning, “Visual Imagery to Ensure the Success of Underprepared Students.” Chad Gesser (Sociology) serves as the Chair of the Theatre of Owensboro Board of Directors. He made a presentation at the 2007 Conference on Information Technology in Nashville entitled “Podcasting: Production and Distribution of Classroom Content.” Bob Graham (Economics) continues to serve on the Owensboro Area World Affairs Council Board of Directors and the Daviess County Public Library Foundation Board of Directors. Marc Maltby (History) serves as President of the Owensboro Area World Affairs Council Board of Directors and is a member of the Owensboro Noon Optimist Club Board of Directors. He delivered presentations on the early history of professional football for both the Evansville Reitz Home and the Evansville Downtown Quarterback Club. Greta McDonough (Human Services) continues to write a weekly column, “From This Place to That,” for the Owensboro Messenger-Inquirer. In the summer of 2007 she traveled to the Czech Republic to begin preparations for a future social work exchange. Greta also serves on the BELL (British Experience in Living and Learning) grant selections committee. Ed Morris (Psychology) continues to serve as OCTC’s representative on the KCTCS Online Peer Team. He has made presentations on online virtual environments (at the New Horizons Conference on Teaching and Learning) and curriculum alignment and teaching innovation (at the Kentucky Psychological Association Conference). Bob Purdy (Criminal Justice) continues to serve as the Coordinator of OCTC’s Criminal Justice Program. He attended several professional development conferences this year, including the Fraternal Order of Police National Convention in Louisville, the annual National Firearms Law Seminar in Louisville, and an FBI Training Session in Barren River, Kentucky. Bill West (History) continues to serve as the Executive Director of Owensboro Sister Cities. He is also the International Representative for the Shawnee Trails Council (Boy Scouts of America) and a member of the Owensboro Area World Affairs Council Board of Directors. Fred Wetzel (Psychology) taught a special topics class (PY 299) with Dr. Tim Dick (Biology) on Evolutionary Psychology in the Spring 2008 semester. He also served as a guest lecturer for GE 140, speaking on the “Psychology of Leadership.” Fred continues to serve on the college’s Nursing Admissions Committee. Pam Wilson (Psychology) continues to serve as President of Owensboro Sister Cities’ Board of Directors and as Vice President of Youth Programs for the Owensboro Noon Optimist Club. Her Sister Cities duties include coordinating the annual Summer Study Program in the Czech Republic. Pam was appointed to a two-year term on the KCTCS Advisory Committee on Promotion.
