Machine Tool Technology
Training in this program begins with the most elementary of principles such as the use and care of basic hand tools, measurements, the action of metal cutting tools, cutting speeds, feeds and feeding devices, and then advancing to more complicated principles including characteristics and strengths of materials. The student is exposed to the principles of mechanical drawing and shop math applicable to this field. Students are taught the various sequences of job operations and the importance of the sequence to assure accuracy in the shortest possible time. the student is given reasonable working acquaintance with the construction and operation of the standard machine tools.
Other options available in this program are the CNC Machinist Apprentice diploma, the Machine Shop Apprentice diploma, an Exploratory Machining, a Machine Operator I or a Machine Operator II certificate.
