Chromatin

Chromatin is composed of DNA and histone proteins

Genetic material

Mitochondria are the powerhouse of the cell

It is where respiration takes place and ATP is produced

It functions to modify, concentrate, and package proteins.

Transport vesicles bud of and move to the plasma membrane and discharge the contents.

Rough Endoplasmic Reticulum

Studded with ribosomes;

Functions to secrete proteins and phospholipids.

Smooth Endoplasmic Reticulum

Some of its functions include:

a). lipid metabolism

b). synthesis of steroid base hormones

c). detoxification of drugs

d). breakdown of glycogen

e). absorption and transportation of fats.

Ribosomes

Ribosomes are the sites of protein synthesis

Involved in cell motility

Intermediate Fibers

Act as guy wires to resist pulling forces.

Determine the overall shape of the cell.

Centrioles

During mitosis the centrioles line up on the opposite ends of the cell and organize the tubules that pull the chromosomes apart

Cilia & Flagella

Whip-like motile cellular extensions that usually occur in large numbers.

Are long cellular projections

Lysosomes

Digests particles, degrades nonfunctional organelles, and non-useful tissues
