ENDOCRINE LAB
Exercise #36; pages 299 and worksheet
Endocrine Gland Anatomy & Microscopic StructureThis lab is to allow you to become familiar with the location and anatomy of a number of the endocrine organs we will be studying Look at the full size models in the classroom and the diagrams in your lab & textbook. There are schematics of endocrine tissue in Exercise 36 and you can use the histology cards and atlas in the front of the room.
This material will appear on your practical so you will want to view all of the slides and know the location of all of the endocrine glands. You may also want to write little descriptions of the structures so that you can identify them later. (The lab is open on Fridays for those of you who do not complete the assignment) Familiarize yourself with the location and general macroscopic structure of the following:
- Pituitary gland (hypophysis)
posterior lobe of the pituitary gland ( neurohypophysis) anterior lobe of the pituitary gland (adenohypophysis)
| Thyroid gland | |
| Parathyroid gland | |
| Adrenal gland (both the medulla and the cortex) | |
| Pancreas |
Using prepared slides draw a representative area of the tissue and label and be able to identify the structures and cell types tissues listed below . Each drawing must be labeled in order to receive full credit. Your drawings should include the following labels
| Thyroid Gland | Parathyroid Gland | Anterior Pituitary | Posterior Pituitary | Adrenal Gland | Pancreas |
| *follicles
*colloid *follicular cells |
*chief cells | *secretory cells | *pituicytes | *capsule *cortex *zona glomerulosa *zona fasciculate *zona reticularis *medulla |
*acinar cells *pancreatic islets(Isles of Langerhorn) |
