Mechatronics at OCTC

The Mechatronics program at Owensboro Community and Technical College is an opportunity to learn the latest industrial technologies through classroom and hands-on opportunities in the state-of-the-art Advanced Technology Center on the main campus of OCTC at 4800 New Hartford Road, Owensboro. The Mechatronics program can also open the doors for you to pursue a career in several of our other technical fields of study: Computer Aided Drafting and Design/GOTS, Electrical Technology, Engineering Technology, Industrial Maintenance, Machine Tool Technology.

What Is It?

Mechatronics is a combination of mechanical technology, electrical technology, and com¬puter systems. These systems combined make it possible to run simpler, more economical, reliable, and versatile manufacturing systems.

Mechatronics is nothing new, it is just the application of the latest in technological advances. All of today's forward thinking companies are implementing this technology. Employers are looking for employees with training in these types of skills.

Mechatronics is found in things you might not think of, such as ABS brakes, Dryers, Robots, Agriculture equipment, Medical equipment, Cell phones and in local factories.

A Mechatronics Technician is a "Jack of all Trades". This technician is readily available to perform electrical maintenance, mechanical adjustment, PLC monitoring and hydraulic/pneumatic maintenance.

Mechatronics allows students to be exposed early to today's advancing technology to get ahead start in their education before graduating high school. The Discover Mechatronics program at OCTC offers students the opportunity to earn college credit, while still attending high school. Completion of the Mechatronics program at OCTC prepares students for the Siemens Mechatronics Systems Certification Level 1 Exam
