Lorna
Hollowell, Director of Diversity Programs at Owensboro Community &
Technical College was honored by the Owensboro Business & Professional
Women, Inc. earning the 2009 “Glass Ceiling Award”. She possesses the ability and finds great pleasure and fulfillment
in bringing people together to celebrate the beauty of similarities and
differences. She implemented several initiatives and
programs in the past year to engage students, faculty, and staff to foster a
harmonious and inclusive campus, while collaborating with community and
secondary partners to promote multiculturalism and the importance of study
abroad to increase global awareness.
Those events include: Coordinating the community-wide Dr. Martin
Luther King, Jr. Celebration; hosting the first annual “Multicultural Student
Jamboree” to promote leadership; coordinating the “History of the Tuskegee
Airmen” presentation (KY Humanities Council) at Daviess County, Owensboro,
and Apollo high schools reaching over 2000 students; being appointed as
Chair of the Owensboro Business & Professional Women’s Diversity in the
Community Committee; being appointed to Owensboro Human Relations Commission by
Owensboro Mayor; traveling to Olomouc, Czech Republic to promote diversity and
global awareness.
